about

Born in 1708, William Hayes trained at Gloucester Cathedral as a chorister and organist. Widely respected in 18th-century English musical life, he became Professor of Music at Oxford where he was instrumental in the building of the Holywell Music Room. Much of his music has remained unperformed, and this album presents for the first time works written for the Holywell concerts.
